Successful sports professionals canearn a great deal more money than people in other important professions. Somepeople think this is fully justified while other think it is unfair.
Discuss both these views and give youropinion.
范文
As a result of constant mediaattention, sports professionals in my country have become stars andcelebrities, and those at the top are paid huge salaries. Just like moviestars, they live extravagant lifestyles with huge houses and cars.
Many people find their rewards unfair, especially when comparing these super salaries with those of top surgeons orresearch scientists, or even leading politicians who have the responsibility ofgoverning the country. However, sports salaries are not determined byconsidering the contribution to society a person makes, or the level ofresponsibility he or she holds. Instead, they reflect the public popularity ofsport in general and the level of public support that successful stars cangenerate. So the notion of “fairness” is not the issue.
While those who feel that sports stars’salaries are justified might argue that the number of professionals with realtalent are very few, and the money is a recognition of the skills anddedication a person needs to be successful. Competition is constant and aplayer is tested every time they perform in their relatively short career. Thepressure from the media is intense and there is little privacy out of thespotlight. So all of these factors may justify the huge earnings.
Personally, I think that the amount ofmoney such sports stars make is more justified than the huge earnings of moviestars, but at the same time, it indicates that our society places more value onsport than on more essential professionals and achievements.

Individuals can do nothing to improvethe environment; only governments and large companies can make a difference. Towhat extent do you agree or disagree?
范文  Nowadays, an increasingnumber of people are concerned about environmental protection and regard it asone of the most important challenges. However, whether only governments and bigfirms have resources and powers to preserve our environment is a controversialissue. My view is that every single citizen could also make a huge difference.
In the first place, it is clear that itis human activities that have the greatest impact throughout the history. Bothenvironment contamination and conservation are the long-term process, and nosingle government or big company can meet this challenge alone. So whoevercreated the problem should be responsible for solving it; environmentprotection needs every one of us to continuously participate in.
Moreover, the public’s wills andbehaviors have critical influence on government’s policies and companies’strategies. For example, if everyone says “no” to plastic shopping bags andpaper cups, the companies that manufacture such products will switch toenvironmental-friendly substitutes in order to survive in the market.
However, that is not to say that governmentsand large companies cannot positively contribute. Indeed, governments can enactlaws and introduce programs to raise the public’s low-carbon awareness;companies can promote green products to change the public’s consuming habits. But they also need every citizen’s appreciation and support to bring goodresults.
In sum, no effort is too small when weare protecting the environment. Meanwhile, local authorities and organizationsmust shoulder their responsibility to develop low-carbon economy at the macrolevel. Only by doing so can we assure that we could hand this beautiful planetto our next generation and the next generation after.

Should criminals be sent to prison orshould they do something else as a punishment? Explain your opinion and giveyour reason.
You should write at least 250 words. You should use your own ideas of knowledge and experience and support yourarguments with examples and relevant evidence.
范文
In recent years, a growing number ofpeople have begun to challenge against the existing practice of sendingcriminals to prison. They argue that the law offenders should be punished to dosomething for the public. In my opinion, however, they should be locked up inprisons.
First of all, it can ensure a safe andcomfortable living environment to the law-abiding citizens. For criminals likethieves, robbers, rapists or even murderers, it is improper or even dangerousto let them out of jails, because they still pose threat to our society. Justas an old saying goes, Mercy to the criminal may be cruelty to the people.
The imprisonment of criminals not onlypunishes the criminals but also deters the potential criminals. It will makewould-be criminals think twice before they commit a crime. Researches revealthat there is a direct link between the implementation of imprisoning criminalsand the decline of crime rate. Without the practice, the world would be ingreat chaos and full of blood and violence.
Some people may say that the practicelays heavy financial burden on the government. In fact, if the police want thebehavior of the criminals to be under control, they have to spend more moneyand time in supervising the criminals after they are set free. Furthermore, once the criminals commit crimes again, it will take the police much trouble tocatch them. In addition, the loss and the damage to the victims will beirreparable.
From what I mentioned above, it is notdifficult to draw a conclusion that criminals should be imprisoned in jails andreceive compulsory reclaim.
